Gardener's Dictionary: Monocotyledon

Monocotyledon (n.): Also monocot. Any of a class of angiosperms that have only one cotyledon in the embryo, and having parallel-veined leaves, flower parts in multiples of three, and no secondary growth in stems and roots. Monocots include lily flowers, orchids and grasses.
