Gardener's Dictionary: Open pollination

Open pollination (n.): Open pollination occurs on plants whose flowers are pollinated and developed into seeds due to wind, birds or pollinator activity. In controlled pollination, on the other hand, humans decide which plants pollinate each other in order to have crops with specific desired traits. Some plants can self-pollinate, which is also not considered open pollination.
