How to Grow and Care for Purple Fountain Grass in Containers

Purple fountain grass

Intro: This pretty purple grass looks great in the back or middle of a combination container planting. This grass, which can reach 36 inches, adds height to the plant container setup. Purple fountain grass is also gorgeous by itself and can be placed behind other plant containers to add height. If purple fountain grass becomes established in a container, it is very hardy and easy to grow.

Scientific Name: Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum'

Plant Type: Annual, perennial plant in warmer regions

Light: Partial sun to full sun

Water: Water based on the other plants in the container. This grass is drought-tolerant and can tolerate extra water.

Propagation: Purple fountain grass plants are propagated by seed, but it's much easier to purchase ornamental grasses like the purple fountain grass from your local garden shop.

Misc. Info: Purple fountain grass is an invasive plant, especially in dry, warm areas like California. If you live in a fire-prone area, destroy the container plant once it dries out, as it presents a fire hazard.
