Getting Rid of Fungus Gnats
I have an indoor garden, and it has a lot of little tiny flying bugs. What are they, and how can I get rid of them?
If they're really tiny black bugs, they're probably fungus gnats. If you overwater your container plants, microscopic fungus grows in the soil, and these tiny insects live off that fungus. Fungus gnats are actually really good for your plants, since they help get rid of that fungus in the potting soil and break it down into nutrients for the plants. But they're quite annoying and not fun to have in the house. The best thing you can do is to cut down a lot on watering the plants, and you can also get those fly strips to catch the flies. They attract the flies with a sweet smell, and they get stuck on the sticky paper. Once you’ve found just the right amount of water to give to your plants, the fungus gnats will naturally go away, and you won’t need the fly strips anymore.
