Taking cuttings are an easy way to start new plants, and so many of our plants can be cloned with this method. (Yay for free plants!) Some plants, like pothos plants, just need a stem and a few leaves, a vase of water and some indirect sunlight. Other plants aren't so easy. They will grow better and faster if you dip the cutting into water and then into a powdered (or sometimes liquid) rooting hormone before placing it in water or potting soil to start growing. This hormone will encourage the cutting to grow roots rather than simply die.
