Plant Tip: Know Your Bugs

Before you squash every insect you see in your garden, make sure you know which insects are good and which are bad! Some insects will do so much damage to your container plants that they may kill them if they get a strong enough foothold (think of slugs chomping on your lettuce and tomato hornworm caterpillars devouring your tomato and potato plants). But other insects are there to help you. They may pollinate the flowers in your garden or they may keep the other insects in check! Do some reading up on good and bad insects, and if you don't recognize a creature in your garden, look it up before you do anything to it!
