Gardener's Dictionary: Filament
Filament (n.): The filament is a part of the male reproductive organ in a flower. It is the thin stem that holds the anther (the pollen sac). Other reproductive parts of the flower are the anther, stigma, style, ovary, and ovules (future seeds). The filament and anther make up the stamen (male reproductive organ), and the entire female reproductive organ is called the gynoecium, which contains the stigma, style, ovary and ovule.
