Gardener's Dictionary: Stigma

Stigma (n.): A part of the female reproductive structure in a flower. The stigma receives the pollen during fertilization. Other reproductive parts of the flower are the anther, filament (holds the anther), style, ovary, and ovules (future seeds). The filament and anther make up the stamen (male reproductive organ), and the entire female reproductive organ is called the gynoecium, which contains the stigma, style, ovary and ovule.
