Gardener's Dictionary: Ovary
Ovary (n.): The female reproductive organ in a flower. The ovary holds reproductive cells called ovules, which become seeds when fertilized by pollen. Other reproductive parts of the flower are the anther, filament (holds the anther), stigma, style and ovules (future seeds). The filament and anther make up the stamen (male reproductive organ), and the entire female reproductive organ is called the gynoecium, which contains the stigma, style, ovary and ovule.
